in the late 1940s and 1950s the first wave of Afro-Caribbean immigrants, many of them ex-servicemen who fought, bled, and watched their friends die during WW2 for the UK, landed with their families in London. In the heart of empire these loyal colonial subjects and their descendants have faced racist subjugation, systematic oppression and violence ever since. With them also came the Afro-Caribbean rhythm traditions which took root and spread all over England, forming the musical foundation of much British modern music, from heavy reggae influenced rock like the Clash and Bauhaus, to the dub infused urban electronic sounds of Garage, Dubstep, UK Funky, and of course, Jungle and Drum'n'Bass.
