Easter at the Saint 1986 / Part 8 of 10

Easter at the Saint 1986 / Part 8 of 10

Playing tracks by

Jackie Rawe and Whitney Houston.

Chart positions

This show was 8th in the global disco chart.

Recorded live at the fabled club The Saint in New York City, this excerpt would have been playing at about 9AM on Easter morning.
The mid-Eighties were a difficult time for nightlife in New York. In gay clubs, the Health Crisis dealt a crippling blow to both attendance and spirits. At the Saint, there was almost a stubborn refusal to face reality while on the dancefloor. ["In here, life is beautiful..."] Party nights were still packed.
Men danced furiously and with cathartic abandon... because life outside the dome was somewhat less pretty.
Listening to this set with the history of the era in mind gives one an entirely different perspective on the music and the mood of the day.

I was there. My sense of being there is different from yours Robbie, even as I look back on it. In those Days of Darkness those nights were times of ritual celebrations of life, not denials. I danced for and with my friends. Some knew they were dying even as they danced alongside me. It was a miraculous time and it was a horrible time. The power of music and the lights was magic, I was there. I am always there, in some way,. Cheers to you, great dj Robbie,

Always so wonderful to travel back to those famous nights. Bringing me back to that dance floor again and again!

I remember leaving this party around 10am and walking home as everyone was going to church. I had my tambourine tucked under my arm. The sidewalks had much glitter and shades of pink/purple and yellow chalk on them. So much color. Oh yeah, I was pretty high still.
