This episode of Learning to Grow with DJ Mkulima (The Farmer) featured an interview with Dr. Mario Capecchi, 2007 Nobel Laureate in Medicine and Physiology. Dr. Capecchi was one of a few scientists working towards achieving a targeted gene knockout in mammals and specifically mice. His work and technology he has been an integral part in developing has led to numerous and profound advancements in biology, medicine and genetics. Dr. Capecchi had a chance to share his inspirational story growing up in the streets of Italy during Nazi persecution, his travels to The U.S. as an immigrant and how he became introduced to science as well as his career in science!
