Field recordings from Belarus by Inna Nazina, You Shouldn't Know From It, Forshpil and Litvakus.
Feature interview with two of the most sought after voices in klezmer - Sasha Lurje (Forshpil, Semer Ensemble, You Shouldn't Know From It) & Zisl Slepovitch (Litvakus) - on their new project: Goyfriend/druG-Goy
If you're in Montreal, don't miss their performance January 19 at École de musique Vincent-d'Indy.
"Goyfriend offers a fresh and revealing view on the Jewish-Slavic-Baltic cultural dialog through music. The fascinating and diverse program explores this crossroads of cultures, with over 600 years of common history. It draws on 200 years of ethnographic research, and finally puts Klezmer in the context of its musical landscape. Unlike Litvakus’ first album, Raysn that portrays the Litvak Yiddish music as deeply rooted in the Belarusian-Lithuanian soil, Goyfriend shifts focus to the image of the Jews and their representations in the eyes of the Baltic and Slavic peoples."
