The twist really took off at the end of 1960 and Chubby Checker's second twist single became a much bigger international hit. 1961 saw the emergence of soul jazz, lapped up by mods and the embryonic British R&B scene. More Motown made its way into the British consciousness. Surf rock began this year in the States, but didn't make it to the UK for another year or two.
