Deconstructed Live was launched by journalist Kingsley Marshall (@kingsleydc) at the turn of the millennium as a showcase for contemporary music. Writing regular columns for a handful of magazines in the UK & US provided access to some of the most interesting producers and musicians operating at the time. The gigs – in boutique venues across the UK – allowed for a varied music policy.
The night wasn’t just about soul, funk, house, techno, drum & bass, hip hop – rather the opportunity for some fabulous DJs, musicians, label managers & the occasional music hack to play their favourite records to receptive crowds. The night was heralded as one of the best in the country by everyone from the NME to Mixmag & The Guardian, while iD went as far to refer to Kingsley as a "romantic poetry quoting soul boy."
