The Smelly Flowerpot on Cambridge 105: When The Stars Began To Fall- A Jackie Leven Tribute

About the show

Playing tracks by

Two Tiny Selves feat Joe Shaw/Dave McIntosh/Kevin Foster, Mike Scott, Dave McIntoch, Jackie Leven/Michael Cosgrave, Michael Cosgrave and more.

A tribute to the late, great and much missed Jackie Leven. With some of his greatest songs (boy was it hard whittling it down to the ones here) & exclusive messages/interviews with friends and artists who worked with him, including members of Doll By Doll. The show, originally broadcast on Cambridge 105 in August 2013, is here in it’s entirety along with some extra material, including songs not previously aired.
Please feel free to do your bit in keeping Jackie’s music and memory alive by sharing.
This show was produced with the assistance of my trusty lap top, some dodgy editing software and several bottles of red wine.

This show is dedicated to the memory of my Mum and the Step Dad that brought me up, who both passed away a few weeks either side of Jackie in 2011. I hope they’re both enjoying the music...

Absolutely wonderful programme. I didn't hear it at the time, but only discovered it very recently via a Facebook friendship with Johnny Dowd, and having read Dave Hammond's piece on Jackie in Sounds. My father passed away 3 days before Jackie did, so at the time my world felt doubly diminished, and irrevocably changed...

Thanks for the comments, really pleased you enjoyed the show. I appreciate what you say- my step Dad died a couple of weeks before Jackie and my Mum four weeks after. His music was a great comfort at the time. By the way, one of my other shows features an interview I did with Johnny Dowd.

..brilliant show. He was a true genius. I was at Jockstock in 2004, great weekend. Saw him play 20-30 times, always a joy.. Miss him..

superb broadcast 'just' gets better an' better..

Dominic Tapes

Great show. Wasn't aware of Mr Leven's work or his connection with Dowd.

The Smelly Flowerpot

Its great to think someone might have discovered Jackie Levens music for the first time through listening to this show. Thanks for listening, and for the comments.

Steve Lane

This is a wonderful tribute to Jackie Leven. Thank you Davey. I hope someone gets to make a documentary about his life.

Couldn't agree more Steve. Apart from the awesome music, a great story to be told about a fascinating person. To be honest, this show could have been double its length or more with the amount of contributions I had. As for the music- that could have filled three or four shows without a dip in quality. Thanks for listening.
