Along with local stalwart and Dutch dance music pioneer Joost Van Bellen, the name Tom Trago seems to appear everywhere when you’re in Amsterdam. Flyers, posters, magazines – he’s a bit of a hero in his hometown it would seem. Knowing nothing about him at first, we’ve slowly begun to understand why he’s such a hot property, thanks to some of his lovely, warm disco-sampling grooves like Lost In The Streets Of NYC from his 2009 debut album Voyage Direct.
His next album, Iris , is ready and due for release soon, and we’ve had a sneak listen – it’s a lovely ride full of retro flavours, hip-house and more, with some excellent guests on the case. Coming out on the hugely acclaimed Rush Hour Records, it looks set to break him as an international force to be reckoned with.
A lover of disco new and old, “proper” house and anything with real funk and soul, he blends the old and the new in the most tasteful and uncontrived of manners.
