Quality not quantity, as they say. Italian producer His Majesty André chooses to take time over his craft rather than churning out ten-a-penny identikit remixes and lazily constructed grooves, and his rep is all the bigger for it. Emerging from the rowdy depths of Hervé’s Cheap Thrills label with an EP of spunky, funked-up filter disco squeakiness, he followed up his debut nicely with remixes for Armand Van Helden & Steve Aoki, Congorock, autoKratz, Redman, Burns and newcomer Florrie, and an EP for Andy George & Jaymo’s Moda imprint. The Italian house music scene has witnessed a bit of a renaissance in recent years, with the likes of Crookers, Solo and Phonat also representing the new skool, and with this mix of cut-up disco, gutter house and wonky bass flavours, it’s clear to see that they are in very good company indeed.
