World City 9th July 2010

World City 9th July 2010

For the last in our week-long series of World City broadcasts, guest presenter, U-Cef, makes a very welcome return to the show. He will be joined in the studio by the long-established Hackney-based ensemble Seeds of Creation.Seeds of Creation was established in 1980 by Berber musician and Hackney resident for more than 25 years, Seddik Zebiri, The band plays an intriguing blend of traditional and popular Algerian music, mixed with reggae, Sahara blues and a touch of jazz.Born and raised in Rabat, U-Cef absorbed much of his native Morocco's multiple traditions before moving first to New York and then to London, immersing himself along the way in the Western world's electronic and rock scenes. His recent album ‘Halalwood’ puts Gnawa music, dub, sinuous classic Arabic arrangements, electronic beats, rappers and MCs, big drums and crunchy rock guitars in a giant blender to produce something fresh and original. Seeds of Creation will be performing at Hyde Park on Saturday
