5 Power, Authority, and Efficacy - The work in Africana Studies is as much a spiritual enterprise as it is intellectual. According to Derrick Jackson, the spiritual leader of KRST Universal Church in Columbia, South Carolina, "Power is the capability for unlimited potential and infinite possibilities. Authority is being and knowing bestowed by divine right. Efficacy is the ability to get things done in terms of self-discovery, self-realization, speaking truth, and doing justice." Africana Studies is filled with a long genealogy of exemplars who demonstrate power, authority, and efficacy dating back to Kemet (ancient Egypt).
