This mixtape is my homage to DJs like Grandmaster Flash, Kool DJ Herc and David Mancuso who used to rock block and loft parties back in the day in NYC with tunes like these. Most of these cuts are from the 70s, most of them are pretty rare, but all of them are f**kin solid. The beats in these cuts are among the funkiest and the most bangin’ ones I’ve ever heard. And just to spice things up, I decided to include some classic roller boogie tunes as well. You gotta remember that the whole hip-hop culture started from block parties held on the streets of NYC. If it wasn’t for DJs like Flash and Herc, the urban music we listen to today would not be the same. You also gotta note that the guys organizing the parties were keeping it real as well: the power for the soundsystem was taken from street lights, which meant that it was all dark outdoors. So no bullsh*t, just plain fun.
I hope that these jams will help music lovers to appreciate the legacy of the forefathers of modern urban music.
