To celebrate Poetry Day Ireland 2017, Claremorris FM broadcast a special programme, Mise an File, featuring poets either from Claremorris or with a Claremorris connection. You might be surprised to know how many there are in the area – and this programme could only include a few of them!
Presenter Anni Wilton-Jones, of the At The Crossroads arts programme, introduces you to six poets, reading a selection from their work. In exchange, Anni shares some of her own poems. With a range of different styles and subject matter on offer, there should be something to suit every taste. If you are from County Mayo, you may guess who some of the poets might be but others may surprise you!
The title Mise, an File (I, the Poet) – is taken from Mise Raifteirí an File, the famous poem by Antoine O Raifteiri (Anthony Rafftery), born a few miles away from Claremorris, in the late 18th century.
