We're staying in Russia as we profile Theramin's contemporary, Arsenij Avraamov. Where Theramin was allegedly kidnapped and smuggled back to Russia from America by an earlier version of the KGB to work on developing Russian spy technology, Avraamov returned of his own accord to the cushy position of Arts Commissar. Western Cold War propaganda suggests Avraamov was wiped from history as Lenin disapproved of all cultural activity - though it appears it was the more romanticised of art practice, a lot was invested into the scientific and productive side of art...soundart bloomed. Avraamov pioneered Found Sound, with what must have been a state commissioned piece, Symphony of Factory Sirens, admittedly art and the state went their separate ways as the state began (or continued) to dictate art, but artists wanted poetic licence over their work.
