Stewardship: Looking After Someone Else's Valuables

Stewardship: Looking After Someone Else's Valuables

Dave continued our Stewardship Series, teaching on giving.

This was the third talk in the stewardship series and after a review we looked at a diagram (see here and below) to explain the pull that comes from the love of money. This then led into considering Abram's response to the grace of God in delivering him and his family from their enemy. Gratitude follows grace and leads to worship expressed as Abram giving a tenth of all his wealth.

Karl Barth: 'Grace and gratitude belong together like heaven and earth. Grace evokes gratitude like the voice of an echo. Gratitude follows grace as thunder follows lightning'. Tithing is a grace issue.

Then we looked at Malachi 3:10 with the outrageous challenge to test God by tithing and bringing the full tithe into the storehouse/the church.

From the diagram showing the twin pull arising from the love of money, which pull do you think is stronger for you?

How can you counter this pull? What truth is a help to you in this battle
