Explanatory Style (Part 4)

Explanatory Style (Part 4)

Your explanatory style is simply how you explain events in your life back to yourself. You could also call it your inner dialogue. Behavioral psychologists tell us that 95% of our emotions are based on what we say to ourselves. This is why it is so critical that we engage in the discipline of talking to ourselves. Listening to yourself is passive. Speaking to yourself is active. The enemy wants you to listen to his lies. God wants you to rehearse the truth. The word introspection means to look inside for perspective. Here is my question for you when you look inside for perspective: Are you motivated or discouraged? If the answer is the latter, then it is time to stop listening to yourself all day long and start talking to yourself instead—transforming your inner dialogue into an external one, and going from passive to active.
