With New York facing a minimum increase on Jan. 1, 2017, home care workers may face a crisis if promised state funding for the increase does not get channeled from Medicaid to the home care agencies on time. We heard more from Laura Haight, the NYS Association of Health Care Providers Vice President of Public Policy. David Friedfel, the Director of State Studies for the Citizens Budget Commission, explained a CBC report that argues that the Foundation Aid Formula, which is used to determine state funding for school districts, is skewed to favor some wealthy districts, while shortchanging some poorer districts. Environmental advocates argue that ff New York wants to reduce its dependency on fossil fuels, alternative heating and cooling options should be considered. Geothermal technology, which takes energy from the ground or air and uses less electricity, has been used on several New York college campuses to great success. […]
