“Christians are nothing without the Holy Spirit,” so writes Bishop Will Willimon and theologian Stanley Hauerwas. Though perhaps overly evocative, these two Methodist leaders are trying to make a point. The Holy Spirit is an amazing part of God that readies us for faithfulness and leads us into service. And so I ask you: Do you know the Holy Spirit?
Many of us feel like we have a connection or at least some familiarity with God (our Mother/Father) and with Jesus the Son, but, as Deacon Troy noted last week, the Holy Spirit is often foreign and unfamiliar. Yet, She is an essential part of the God we follow.
We know in literature and in life that images help us connect with the unfamiliar. So each week of May, we will explore an image of the HS in hopes we connect with her ways and work more clearly.
