Here’s how Wayne State and Henry Ford Health System have worked with other stakeholders in Michigan’s Motor City to reduce the number of major incidents by 38% and attract young urban professionals to the area.DETROIT- It’s no secret that Michigan’s largest city has experienced more than its fair share of crime, which has discouraged the public from working and living in its midtown. To address this chronic problem, the Wayne State University Police Department and the Center for Urban Studies developed a targeted crime fighting initiative called Midtown CompStat.

Now, Wayne State police, representatives from Henry Ford Health System’s police authority as well as representatives from the Detroit Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, AmeriCorps, Detroit Medical Center, corrections, local libraries, private companies and other institutions meet every other week to map crimes that occur and develop strategies to combat them.
