NOVA Police Chief and CS Director of the Year Finalist Daniel Dusseau discusses how his college prepared for a review by the U.S. Department of Education.Nothing strikes fear in the heart of a college police chief more than a letter from the U.S. Department of Education announcing its intention to conduct a Clery audit. In the summer of 2011, Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) received such a letter, making it one of the first two-year schools to be audited by the Department of Education.
Northern Virginia’s Chief of Police Dan Dusseau, who is also one of this year’s Campus Safety Director of the Year finalists, oversaw his institution’s response to the audit, as well as the preparation of campus police and other administrators on how to interact with auditors.
He will be presenting on his institution’s experience with the process at the 2014 Campus Safety Conference, which will take place July 31- Aug. 1 in Los Angeles. To register for the event, visit www.Campu
