Cuyahoga Community College's vice president and chief of police, Clayton Harris, who is also one of this year's Campus Safety director of the year finalists, describes how he developed his dignitary protection program and the lessons he and his department have learned from the process.College campuses have had a long history of hosting VIPs, be they politicians, celebrities, religious figures or other individuals with controversial opinions. Protecting these high-profile people can be extremely challenging due to their national or even international prominence. That’s why Cuyahoga Community College created its dignitary protection program.
The school’s vice president and chief of police Clayton Harris, who is also one of this year’s director of the year finalists, developed a team of specially trained members of the campus police department’s patrol and detective divisions dedicated to VIP protection.
This team has helped provide security for dignitaries like President Barrack Obama
