On this week’s edition of ‘Where the road takes me’, and in the first of a two part programme, Jim Livingstone tells us the story of his famous mother, who came from a humble Donegal up-bringing and later shot to stardom all over the world.
Bridie Gallagher played to 7,500 people at the Royal Albert Hall in London – it’s a record that won’t and can’t be beaten. Her career lasted almost fifty years, and she is credited with paving the way for future Irish singers to expand their own careers to Britain. She brought glamour to show-business, and was noted for her attention to detail and perfect diction.
But Bridie Gallagher’s life was not without heartbreak and tragedy. Often emotional, Jim Livingstone tells the story of his famous mother in an honest and straight-forward manner.
With a contribution from Daniel o’Donnell, we also hear some of the songs that brought her fame and fortune.
‘The Bridie Gallagher story’ – as told by her son Jim. Part one on Where the road takes me.
