This show was 17th in the global r&b chart, 24th in the global funk chart and 32nd in the global soul chart.

On 11/10/15, the world lost a giant of a man, one of the most important figures in the history of music. Songwriter, arranger, producer, & performer Allen Toussaint recorded amazing works in R&B, soul, rock, doowop, blues, traditional jazz, modern jazz, & of course, FUNK. His imprint on the music of New Orleans, and therefore, the music of America, is indelible. Simply put, if you enjoy any American music made in the last 50 years, you owe a debt to Allen Toussaint.

Personally speaking, we were going to be on the same bill in January at a show that surely would have been one of the highlights of my life. I've idolized this man from the moment I first learned of his existence, and it was an incredible joy to see him deliver phenomenal performances right up until the last note of his life.

A truly comprehensive mix would be several days long, so this just highlights the genre-spanning brilliance of this brilliant and gracious man. Thank you, Allen.

This mix is absolutely incredible. I listened to it while getting excited for his tribute at this year's JazzFest and still come back to it now that I'm back home and constantly miss his amazing city. And Allen of course.

Thank you. I'd heard he'd passed away from a friend who'd played a gig with Leo Nocentelli. This friend posted it on Facebook late at night, but after everyone started asking questions and no one could confirm anything, we'd determined that Leo had fallen for a hoax. A couple of hours later at 6am, I was sitting on the tarmac at JFK, checking Facebook before shutting off my phone for a long flight to San Francisco when I saw the bad news was confirmed. It was devastating to learn we'd lost this giant right before a 5.5 hour flight, and when I landed, I went right to work in putting this mix together. This labor of love was the only way I knew how to cope with such a monumental loss, and I'm glad it's brought joy to his fans.

There are a lot of songs on here I didn't know were Toussaint songs. Wow.
