Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!
It is with immense sadness that we report the passing of legendary foundation saxophonist, Felix "Deadly" Headley Bennett. Generoso was lucky to have met Headley Bennett when Headley teamed up with trombonist, Vin Gordon, to support Justin Hinds on tour in the late 1990s. Headley, an amazing musician learned to play at The Alpha Boys School and started his recording career with Coxsone Dodd in 1962. From that release and through the next fifty years, Headley Bennett would play on some of the most important cuts in Jamaican music history including the very first recording of Bob Marley at Beverleys. Our show this week is a two-hour retrospective of Headley's work from 1962-1982. It was tough to just pick out the 31 tracks of his that we played. Much live and respect to Headley's family and colleagues.
XO Generoso and Lily
