Both Lily and I are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of legendary trombonist, Emmanuel "Rico" Rodriguez, who died last week at the age of 80. For this tribute show, we decided to examine Rico's work prior to his emigration to England in 1962. While in Jamaica during those years before helping to build the UK reggae scene, Rico was in high demand and was rarely less than brilliant while working for a wide array of producers from Duke Reid, and Harry Mudie, to Coxsone Dodd, Dada Tuari, and Prince Buster. We hope that you enjoy this one hour spotlight of just this specific era of Rico's work that starts midway through this program. We will start off with two sets of rocksteady and reggae, a mento set, and ending with a set of Jamaican rhythm and blues before going into our Rico Rodriguez spotlight. RIP Rico, you were the best.

Great show, thanks for posting. I plan to do a series of Rico tributes soon. I met him a number of times and was once blessed to be invited round to his flat in South Kensington where I spent an afternoon talking with him about the old days in Jamaica.
