One night, I found myself wishing I had something inspirational to read. There are times when a book, or an article that is inspirational, will lift a person and help him get his eyes off the ground to see higher and better things. But I couldn’t find a thing in the house that I felt met this need that I had not already read. This bothered me. Why? Because I had a Bible close to hand, and I did not feel like picking it up and reading it for inspiration.
Over-familiarity was doubtlessly part of the problem. When the Bible is your life’s work, it is easy to let familiarity breed boredom. But there was more to it than that. And I have had a lot of people express this same need and desire.
What is it that we are looking for and not finding? And how is it that we might not find the Bible to be our #1 source of inspiration. I want to give you an illustration that may lead us to the answer.
