Matthew Plampin: On Turner's Punk Rock attitude

This year we have been exposed to a lot of Turner and his ground breaking reputation, shattering the mould of tradition where audiences were revered by his cutting edge art work.
Tate Britain kick off 2015 with the exhibition 'Late Turner', then came Mike Leigh's awards winning film with Timothy Spall stepping into the shoes of the established Turner and showcasing the grunting, snorting yet intriguing artist in his later years.
Matthew Plampin, author and art historian and his historical fiction novel 'Will & Tom' draws the reader back to an earlier time, when Turner was just starting off and the steps he took to become of the most venerated artists of all time.
The year is 1797 and Matt focuses on Will, the younger and his friend Thomas Gertin - two artists, two friends with one week to make their mark on the art world.
