‘Comedy is the new rock and roll’ thanks to a new breed of comedian that was born out of the British student union circuit and alternative comedy clubs in the Nineties.
David Baddiel was the epitome of this but admits that coming out of Cambridge and Footlights in the late 1980s was at completely the wrong time.
Later Baddiel teamed up with Rob Newman and together they became a sensation and very much entrenched in the alternative comedy circuit of the late 1980s and 90s.
These guys really were the godfathers of the time as they were the ones who started the whole arena tour concert for comedy filling huge arenas such as Wembley stadium full to the brim!
After a rather long stint together Baddiel and Newman separated. Baddiel later met Skinner of Frank fame and started a steady stream of TV shows that catapulted the duo into our front rooms, making us laugh with their dry, laddish sense of humour forever to remain in our minds as one of comedy's golden double acts.
