So Paul rings me one day, "I've got all these songs that I've recording on an old cassette four track machine"
"Oh yeah" says I
"Yeah, " he says "Some of 'em are new and some are years old, they've got some of the best musicians on the UK Rockabilly scene playing on 'em. There's real drums on some and my old drum machine on others. I really want to get them backed up before the tapes start to give up. Can you give me a hand mixing them and adding new bits?"
"Sounds fun" I said
And so began my education on all things rockabilly, the minutae of slapback delays on standup basses, twanging Gretches, stripped back kits, reverb where I'd never heard it before, a whole different sensibility about music and recording. What an education! These tracks are only the first of this, there's tons more and it's great, but I need to convince him to let me put it up. Oh and I learnt about chickens from him too, but that's a whole other story...
