The Virgin Mary, Incarnation, and Q&A

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank comments on an article in the Washington Post by Rev. Ruth Everhart titled, Our culture of purity celebrates the Virgin Mary. As a rape victim, that hurts me. In the article, Everhart claims that church culture sets an impossibly high bar of purity, which she blames on the Virgin Mary. She goes on to say that trying to be sexually pure is just way too much pressure. Contrary to this, however, Mary actually takes the pressure off by being the chosen vessel through whom redemption was made possible. As C.S. Lewis said, “God became man to turn creatures into sons: not simply to produce better men of the old kind but to produce a new kind of man.” It’s not so much about a changed life, but about the exchanged life; the life of Christ within. The more we contemplate the incarnation, the more staggering it becomes. To think that the one who knit us together in our mother’s womb would inhabit Mary’s womb, boggles
