FOLK FUNK YACHT ROCK & SMOOTH PSYCH VOL.1 (October 2015)
Okay, this is my first mixtape in a long time, nearly 4 years to be exact, and the first in an ongoing collection of mixes that should successfully document my record collection in a series of succinct vinyl soundscapes.
With 4 years of unmixtaped finds backed up, it was tough to narrow down to an hour-long playlist but I think I'm happy with this bunch of tunes.
Some of my favourites include:
- Steve Parks' stunning 'Still Thinking Of You', deeply soulful stuff indeed;
- 'The Visit' by The Cyrkle; introspective and deluded but absolutely beautiful.
- This mixtape's namesake 'It's Bigger Than I' by Jon Lucian, a scarce 45-only folk funk killer;
- The breathtaking 'Cautiously' by Richie Havens, one of the few songs I've ever listened through to and then put the needle right back to the start again; indescribably good.

Definitely the best mix in this style I've heard in a long while! Great selections (couple of faves but also a bunch new to me) and, importantly, lovely smooth transitions. Great work!
