Big thanks to JM for the 164th "Straight From The Play Box" mix.

JM bought his first 45 in 1975 as a youngster and has been hooked ever since. At school he used to supply mixtapes to his friends so becoming a DJ was a natural progression. His first love is radio and began broadcasting on the UKs first student radio station soon followed by joining pirates Solar Radio and Kiss FM in the late 80’s. It was at this time he adopted the ‘Connoisseurs’ moniker not only on air but as a journalist he wrote the ‘Connoisseurs’ page for Kiss owned Free Magazine. In the 90’s he helped set up Touch Magazine where he continued the page focusing on the collectors sounds popular in London. Although he did a number of special soul collectors shows on Kiss 100 FM his main focus became DJing in the clubs during this period. -- Continued in comments--

JM (JM Soul)
Straight From The Playbox
He switched back from club DJing to radio in the early 00’s when he re-joined the reformed Solar Radio. There he remained with his regular Friday night slot until 2014 when he reunited with the old Kiss FM team joining Mi-Soul.com. In addition to his regular Friday 9pm slot on Fri he does a popular ‘Old Skool’ special once a month on a Weds 5pm for all the soul collectors.
Although JM has a diverse musical taste covering Soul, Hip Hop, R&B, Soulful House, Modern Soul, Jazz, Disco, Boogie etc he has never stopped his relentless search for rare and lesser known soul especially the kind of sounds that have traditionally been popular in London. Recently JM has returned to Club DJing both in contemporary soul but also on the collectors’ scene having played at Filthy Soul and a regular at Carib Soul.
To get a taste of what to expect from him hear his debut ‘Straight From The Playbox’
