Adulthood Redux (2007RWRK)

Adulthood Redux (2007RWRK)

Playing tracks by

Norah Jones, Robert Palmer, Chet Baker, Betty Carter, Tuck & Patti and more.

First compiled in the mid-90s, via vinyl and CD, as one did then, this session was one I was eager to remake in MixMeister when that opportunity came along. Sound handling in the early versions of MM was unkind to organic instruments, so when the software improved, another redo was in order, and this time I brought in a few newer selections as well.

I had the chance to share "Adulthood Redux" with ThirdPower recently, and at his urging, I'm finally adding it to the BeatConscious stream (and also because this August is turning out to be all about catching up on new music, listening but not mixing at the moment....)

So grab your drink of choice and turn the lights down low -- here we have a few of the more distinctive voices of our time putting their stylist stamp on jazz standards of infatuation, obsession, and heartbreak.

Thank you for uploading this mix. It starts out with such a beautiful Norah Jones track, setting the stage for what is about to come. It was so nice to hear Betty Carter. Do you remember her being a regular at Blues Alley in Georgetown, making her yearly rounds? I use to see Johnny Hartman and many other Jazz greats there. I am listening to this again right now, after hearing it last night. We are all grateful that you decided to blow the dust off of this "jewel" of a mix and let her shine once more. Some of these Artists may not be with us, but this music lives on and on. As Betty says on track 4, "STAY SWEET AS YOU ARE"!
