I was completely devastated as news of Prodigy's death reverberated everywhere on June 20th. Completely frozen, I could barely function or move that afternoon. Text messages lit up my phone all afternoon. Someone who was just two years older than me, someone who was apart of the soundtrack to my teenage years, someone largely responsible for leading the resurgence of New York Hip-Hop in the mid-1990's, someone who lived his entire life battling pain caused by sickle cell anemia, someone who had grown & evolved immensely in consciousness and maturity right before our eyes was gone just like that. I knew that I had to put together a set that would air the very next day on BeachBoyFresh radio show. This was also the first facebook live stream episode of BeachBoyFresh radio show. The audio from that livestream wasn't great (we'll figure it out) but overall, given the circumstances, I'm happy with the actual episode itself. Salute to an undisputed legend in Hip-Hop. RIP my brother!
