Well Pattie, true to form, it's almost 2 months since I promised you would do one of these every month. Still, it's an improvement on the original 5 years. Progress has been made.
This collection is a bundle of contradictions, consisting entirely of recent releases by very new bands (in many cases they haven't even recorded their first record), yet it often ends up sounding like a mid-80s to early 90s compilation. I think its definitely a factor of getting older that more and more new music starts to sound familiar to you as music from your youth. There certainly seems to be an inescapable revisionist trend in music.
It can be disconcerting as someone who was there 'the first time round', trying to relate to fellow music lovers who happen to be 10 years younger than you. The fear of irrelevance looms large. It is also troubling to reflect that there are no truly original ideas, and that there probably never have been.
Still, good tunes are good tunes. Beijos xx
