Playing tracks by
Aikawa Nanase, Maaya Sakamoto & Yoko Kanno, Maaya Sakamoto, Noriko Sakai, Puffy Amiyumi and more.
Although my musical counterpart, Arran Arctic (www.arranarctic.com), has a canon that consists mostly of folk based music, I personally draw creative influences from all over the shop.
I decided to highlight a few of the Japanese tracks I spent many hours collecting during my Japanorama phase (an illogical love of everything Japanese!).
Apologies (to listeners and the featured artists) if the sound quality isn't great on some of the tunes. These tracks have mostly been sourced from CDs that have been kicking around my bottom drawer for quite some time!
If you check out any of these artists, I'd definitely recommend Maaya Sakamoto, who has a huge body of work, all of which is fantastic. As highlighted in the 2nd track here, she worked closely with Anime sountrack producer and composer Yoko Kanno during her early career, which lends a lot of her songs a cinematic quality that is absent from a lot of other J-Pop.
