The AntiSF Radio Show Cygnus A

G’day and welcome to The AntipodeanSF Radio Show Cygnus A. G’day, I’m Nuke, and I’m here to introduce what is to us here in the Sol system, one of the strongest radio sources in the sky. It was discovered by Grote Reber in 1939. Later, in 1951, Cygnus A was identified with an optical source, in this case becoming the first radio galaxy. Something big’s happening at Cygnus A, since two radio jets extend many times its width, easily visible even though we’re 600 million light years away, and there are two intense hot spots at the far edge of the jets, where ejected material is colliding with the intergalactic medium. Now. Where was I. Oh yes. In Contact, Cygnus A makes an appearance as the result of intelligences actively creating a galaxy.
