They are the Dead Days, these days between Christmas and New Year. A quiet, limbo period of between-festive blues, of waiting, of reflection. A chance to reflect on the year passed and the year to come. A chance to enjoy being quiet. Read a book, a quiet book. Listen to music, quiet music. Let go.
Listen well and you will hear: there is a magic flowing beneath the quiet, beyond the fog, through the Dead Days.
This is my fourth “Music for the Dead Days” mix, each inspired by Marcus Sedgewick’s The Book of Dead Days. The Book of Dead Days is set between Christmas and New Year, the period of time to which the title refers: “a strange, a quiet interlude, somehow outside the rest of the year, outside time itself.”
As is now the form, this “Music for the Dead Days” mix was compiled in the spirit of the Dead Days: lazily. A bit of thought about sequencing over coffee and the last mince pie, and I sat by the fire and hit record. I hope you like it.
