Zach Saginaw records under the name Shigeto, as a tribute to the Japanese branch of his family tree. Shigeto stands for Zach’s vividly beautiful electronic music. Beat-driven but given to richly textured sound design, rhythmically fractured but melodically sumptuous, Shigeto’s music is a bridge between the past and present. Zach picked up the drums at an early age, spending much of his childhood playing mostly jazz in the Detroit/Ann Arbor music scene. His body of work has grown to the tune of several EPs on Moodgadget and Ghostly and remixes for Tycho, Mux Mool, Shlohmo, and more. 'No Better Time Than Now' is the last album that reflects a pivotal year in his life blending warm washes of liquid synth, intricate production, jazz-influenced arrangements. Celebrating his world tour we spoke with him about musical background, influences, studio techniques and forthcoming projects.
