Compiled & mixed by Mike G at Rubycon Sound, July 2012.
This mix started out as another volume of my Vedic Space series, but became broader in its Eastern sources and themes, thus the name The Deep East.
With varying degrees of emphasis, this mix is about deep, psychedelic drone sounds, though much of it is not strictly "ambient drone music". These sounds were first heard by many Westerners via the native music of the Indian subcontinent, which Western musicians began discovering in the post-WWII period of the 20th Century.
Rich drones, hovering chords and suspended strings - both acoustic and electronic and almost infinite in variety - today remain one of cornerstones of the ambient and downtempo world.
