At the beginning of this WVBF recording, I've included some comments/info about the station from my correspondent in Boston ... If you don't want to listen, please skip the first 2 minutes.
In 1970 Fairbanks Broadcasting purchased radio WKOX-FM 105.7 and in 1971 changed its call-letters to WVBF-FM, apparently named after the station owner's wife: Virginia Brown Fairbanks.
The station was consequently nick-named the “Electronic Mama” and played freeform rock music. WVBF-FM continued until 1993.
