Dave Maynard was one of the best on Boston and a great guy in person. He had a statue of a giant rabbit in his front yard in Winthrop. He joined WBZ from WORL as one of the live five in 1958. He also hosted a bandstand type TV show from 3 to 4pm called "Record Shop Hop" weekdays on channel 4 after which he would walked down the hall and do radio from 4:05 to 7:30. And he liked his beer!!

Long before computers controlled everything in a radio studio. You can hear the noticeable click when Dave starts one of the noisy Gates tape cartridge players. In the broadcasting biz we called them cart machines.

This actually features Dave Maynard sitting in for Carl DeSuze. But Dave was a great talent and eventually inherited the show after Carl retired. There was very little music played on this morning show because WBZ has always been, and continues to be the go-to station for news in Boston. Great clip!

Thanks Ispin for pointing out my omission ... which I've now corrected :-)
