The old classic sound of Disco has undergone a bit of a revival in recent times, with many artists taking inspiration (and samples) from many a dusy old 70's/80's record. This modernisation of Disco has been simply dubbed as "Nu Disco", and this mix serves to demonstrate examples of just how that sounds, along with some tracks that give the mix a more balearic twist.
Opening with a cut from Morgan Geist, known to many as one-half of NY Disco dons Metro Area, this mix is a whistle-stop of records from some of the finest proponents of this 115-bpm(ish) variant of House music. Lindstrøm's excellent "Limitations" is a stripped-down funk monster with the genuine feel of a 70's US cop/detective kind of show, flowing neatly into Kerrier District (Luke Vibert) & Black Mustang's demented disco freakout that is "Mad As Hell".
With proper chilled, atmospheric tracks from the likes of I:Cube, Todd Terje and Maurice Fulton, and more dancefloor-oriented fodder to come later before we close ...
