Mihda Koray was born in Istanbul, and moved to London when she was 9. She moved back to Istanbul after graduating, and in 2006 she founded URA!, a new kind of hybrid space for performances, video installations, and exhibitions, where artists including Raymond Pettibon and Chris Burden have staged and curated shows. She also produced a small arts newspaper while running URA!, and that turned into a magazine later. Then she founded Near East, and it’s mission is to create a second wave of engagement between Turkish and global art. Besides establishing its space as a creative agency, Near East extends its operations to include an international culture magazine. First commission was Martin Creed in in September 2015.
