Presentation at Unsafe+Sounds Festival Vienna, October 1st 2022. Unsafe+Sounds discourse programme covered this year the politics of the dancefloor. In his lecture Luis-Manuel Garcia-Mispireta will adress issues about »BOUNCERS, DOOR POLICIES, MULTICULTURALISM, AND EMBEDDED DIVERSITY IN CLUBS«. Thinking about belonging means also thinking about exclusion, especially when the cultural context encourages us to imagine open, uncomplicated belonging like in club culture. Garcia-Mispireta is a Lecturer in Ethnomusicology and Popular Music Studies at the University of Birmingham. His research focuses on urban electronic dance music scenes, with a particular focus on affect, intimacy, stranger-sociability, embodiment, sexuality, creative industries and musical migration. His forthcoming book is entitled Together Somehow: Music, Affect, and Intimacy on the Dancefloor.
