Continental Drift explores international music of all genres, from funky afrobeat to digi-cumbia; Balinese gamelan to Balkan brass; and so much more. Drift DJs sift through the world's vast musical archives to bring you the countries and areas you hear represented every Monday-Friday 12 PM - 2 PM [all times CST].
On this special episode of Drift, DJs Minna and Vicki embark on a journey filled with psychedelia and funk from around the world. In honor of Turkey Day, we begin with some Balkan dance beats and then boogie on into some music from three of Turkey's foremost 1960s and 70s psych rockers: Iskender Doğan, 3 Hür El, and god among men, Bariş Manço. Then we move onto Korea with Shin Joong Hyun, get funky in Nigeria with Johnny Haastrup, and spin some bluesy desert tunes by the soulful Tuareg band Tinariwen.
Anytime you feel like getting your funky, fuzzy, cosmopolitan groove on, just press play, and ride on back to the baddest music scenes of the psych rock era.
