Scott Turner Schofield is an acclaimed writer, performer and Trans activist. In Dublin recently for a performance and workshop at Trinity College Dublin, Scott caught up with TENI's Ben Power for TransTuesday on Dublin City-fm. In a full and frank interview Scott shares with Ben & listeners, the highs and lows of being Trans in the public eye. Scott recalls a childhood in the Deep South that was hugely assisted by understanding and supportive parents. He illustrates how his life experiences have influenced his work and vice versa. Scott relates how audience reactions to his performance have changed their initial preconceptions of Trans people and offers an example of how a group of good ole' boys were pleasantly surprised he was not like Tim Allan. Scott ably defends his appearance on a reality dating show, on the basis of being offered a platform to communicate the Trans message to a mass audience. Scott helps lift the gloominess from Ireland with a message of uninhibited optimism.
