Bogdan Suceavă interview

Bogdan Suceavă interview

Chart positions

This show was 19th in the global interview chart.

A rich conversation with Romanian-born mathematician and author Bogdan Suceavă. We discuss the relation of mathematics to poetry in the work of seminal Romanian poet Ion Barbu (Dan Barbilian) and in Suceavă’s own fiction. He reads from his book Miruna, a Tale (translated by Alistair Ian Blyth; Twisted Spoon Press), and relates its origins in terms of his own family history and Romanian oral tradition. We talk about the lost forests of Europe, how Romania's new openness may affect the legacy of 20th-century Romanian authors such as Eugen Barbu, Petru Dumitriu, and Marin Preda, and learn how Suceavă as a writer can be both critical and celebratory of Romanian life and culture.
