JA vibes 1955 to 1985. A journey through thirty years of Jamaican music

Playing tracks by

Chin's Calypso Quintet, Count Lasha & His Calypsonians, Lord Lebby with the Caribs, Laurel aitken, Jackie Edwards and more.

To celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence on 6th August 2012, here is a modest sample of the progression of Jamaican music 1955-1985. Covering calypso/mento, rhythm and blues/shuffle, ska, rocksteady, reggae, roots, rockers, dub and dancehall. A few pops and crackles from the vinyl but that's all part of the trip. Everyone irie? One love.

This "mixtape" brings back the most wonderful memories of hanging out as a teenager and a young adult, the people I used to hang out with that made my growing up an important experience, the houses and zozo huts we used to hang out in, a hifi system powered by a generator... thank you.
