Toronto's James Vandervoort a.k.a. DJ JAMES ST. BASS has been a staple contributor to the Then & Now series. Having got his start in the booth at Queen West's infamous BOOM BOOM ROOM, St. Bass went on to spin five nights a week at the Ballinger brothers' tri-level masterpiece, GO-GO, on Richmond Street.
GO-GO was a deeply influential Toronto club, and the music of St. Bass (along with fellow original resident Mark Oliver) played a huge role in bringing crowds and communities together on its crowded dancefloors.
This mix is taken from one side of a cassette, recorded live at GO-GO MEN in October of 1992. If we're lucky, perhaps St. Bass will share the flip..... or some of the many other cassettes he's got stashed away. This is the first of his mixes to be found online.
St. Bass also worked at Toronto clubs including STILIFE, OZ, LIMELIGHT & 23 HOP.
